CHAPTER 1
(No chapter title provided)
(No chapter title provided)
Meet Yamashita Eimi, a petite, ordinary looking (of course) 11th grader who decides to reside in the school dormitory. She is welcomed by a seemingly apathetic boy (revealed to be Sawaguchi), and they enter the recreation room. Startling a gambling crowd (what a first impression), he calls for a beautiful girl named Kurogawa Misa and tells this epitome of beauty that Eimi's her new roommate. Then, he reminds the male gamblers that they shouldn't be in the girls' dorms. Ironically, though, he comes with the two girls to show Eimi their new room. The three are welcomed to their room by a HUGE poster of female dancers, and we learn that Misa's obessesed with the female body (0.0) as Sawaguchi exits.
Suddenly, a boyish-looking girl, Ryou, barges into the room and greets Misa. She immediately notices Eimi, and greets her with, "You must be the new boarder." Ignoring the "new boarder," Ryou discusses with Misa their plans to sneak into the guys' boarding rooms. (0.0) When Eimi questions, Ryou replies that it is their sacred 'mission,' part of the dorm ritual. Eimi, as a new boarder, has to undergo a courage test, which is, to creep into the boys' dormitory and steal a room number plaque. (0.0) Unexpectedly, Misa offers her help because Eimi seems to be the only roommate who'll ever accept and get used to her dorm "decorations."
The next day, Eimi confirms to her school friends that she'll really be living in the dorms, and just then, she notices a tall, mysterious boy bypass her. When she asks her friends who the boy is, they answer that he's Wanibuchi, a guy teachers warn the rest of the students to stay away from. He is rumored to have spent his junior high in juvie. They go on with the fact that while the girls stay away, the guys admire him.
Meanwhile, Ryou and Misa asks the librarian of the school for a map, but he tells them it's forbidden. So, Ryou successfully asks a girl who's helping in at the library (and who probably thinks he's a good-looking boy) to get the map while Misa flirts with a guy in order to get the password of the door of the guys' dorms. Later, they hand Eimi their gathered resources, and Eimi enthusiastically promises to try her best.
Then, the mission begins. The girls warn her (using the cellphone) to beware of Sawaguchi, though he'll ignore everything for 15 minutes first. Ryou is about to give her a new set of direction to avoid having to jump through a towering fence, but Eimi impresses them by leaping over it with ease. The girls comment on how 'beastly' she is.
Eimi swiftly runs along the halls, and stops at a plaque with a familiar last name, Wanibuchi. He sees her. And just when you think this is a plain horrible strike of plain horrible luck, Wanibuchi tells her to come in his room when they overhear a guy suspecting a girl to have broken in. (Phew!) However, the two suddenly find themselves alone in his room as more and more guys look around for a girl. Just then, a friend of his, Inui, barges into the room (Don't these people knock?). He teases Wanibuchi that the girl's too small for him to be bullying (As mentioned, she's short). Then, as she starts to explain her mission, the board manager opens the door and warns the two guys of a female intruder. Thankfully, Wanibuchi manages to hide her on time. While she's clutching onto the window sill, he tells her to be careful. His advice is of no use, however, because she falls. But fortunately, he catches her. Then, he informs her of the way to get out, and when she asks why he's even helping her, he answers with, "Sudden impulse, probably." She thanks him.
She runs back, and the girls congratulate her, marveling over her collector's items plaques (Wanibuchi and Inui are popular). She informs them of their assistance, and comments on Wanibuchi's sexiness while half-naked. (True. xp) Eimi asks the two girls why the conditions of the girls' dorms are so different from the boys' and they reply that it must be because of the budget.
That night, Eimi can't seem to sleep because of Misa's poster.

Thoughts:
Obviously, the title is a parody of the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast. Most will probably say that the beast is Wanabuchi, whose kind personality is concealed by his famed intimidating looks. And that Eimi will be the Beauty (the manga-ka's use of irony again) who'll recognize the Beast's true self. But I wonder... couldn't the roles be switched? Eimi's beastly moves and plain looks cover a wonderful girl, and I think Wanabuchi will see through this too.
This title is what ultimately caught my attention first as I looked through a manga list. The story is definitely comedic, and though I can't really say that the start's greatly amazing, there's this realitic feeling I get from the show. While the story's full of odd (unrealistic?) characters, you achieve a certain feeling that describes an actual dorm life, and its benefits and not-benefits. . Added with the fact that this completed manga only has 28 chapters (seriously currently not-so-enthusiastic about long mangas that draaggg onnnn), this is one that I may have to read all the way. =D
Thanks to IVYSCAN for the scanlations!
